This is the equipment which includes mask, gloves, gown and eye shields that health professionals use to keep safe. The problem is, there is a shortage of it. We have gloves and masks, but are waiting on shipments of gowns and eye shields. I bought some protective goggles at Home Depot that are reusable that may fit the bill.
But if there is a shortage of this equipment in hospitals, should we be using it in testing outpatients when knowing the results won’t alter therapy for most patients? This is the latest controversy. For most people we are going to treat their symptoms and ask them to self quarantine for 2 weeks. We also don’t know how accurate these tests are since they are brand new and we don’t have experience with them. If you are sick and self quarantined it would be nice to know whether you have Covid -19 since you might be able to shorten your stay, but is that critical? If you are in self quarantine because you were exposed, having a negative test is nice, but it doesn’t mean that you won’t develop it.
Once we have more tests kits and are sure of how to use them and stay safe, we will decide who to test on a case by case basis.
Stay tuned.
