You may have noticed a lull in the deluge of information that you have been receiving. I know it wasn’t raining all over the country, but it seems like, at least locally, the rain dampened the amount of information being spread. It seems like people have run out of the new information(real or fake) that they can forward to friends and family. One of the things that has amazed me in this crisis is the competitiveness of people in passing on the latest information (again real or fake). It is some form of weird currency that makes them feel like they have an edge on others. Sometimes the emails, videos, etc. that I am sent have misinformation so egregious that it boggles the imagination. Who makes these videos? Who comes up with this stuff? Deep breath.
Sleep can be a problem these days and I have a cure. If you find that you are not able to sleep, you should read this article from last week’s JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) on “Turbulent Gas Clouds and Respiratory Pathogen Emissions”.

If you want to pass on that, you may want to watch the videos on how far a cough of sneeze can travel. This link may give you the full article but scroll down to watch the video. One forceful sneeze went 23 feet!
On another note, we had a lot of rain over the weekend and in between showers, I went out and dumped containers around the house that held rainwater. I also placed mosquito dunks in the bird baths and checked the water in my mosquito traps. Here is some information on them from their website.
“Mosquito Dunks are favorites of homeowners and professionals providing effective mosquito control around standing bodies of water. Each dunk kills mosquitoes before they become flying, biting adults. Mosquito Dunks provide 30 days of continuous control under normal environmental conditions. They contain Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, a targeted larvicide, which releases into the water once placed.
Dunks float in water and can be anchored with string to prevent them from being washed away. Mosquito Bits are suitable alternatives to the Mosquito Dunks when bodies of standing water are not present. Alternate drying and wetting does not reduce the effectiveness of Mosquito Dunks or Mosquito Bits.”
