I was going to send this out as a newsletter, but I have been busy with the surge in virus cases and now Christmas is around the corner.
First of all, I don’t have any vaccine. This will be determined by the State of Texas. I don’t know when we will receive it, which one we will get or how many. I will send out an email when I do and will continue to post updates on this blog.
Second, the holiday travel advice is from the CDC and, as you might expect, the advice is don’t. It does give some very practical advice for assessing risk and staying well. This is the part I found most interesting:
- If you are traveling, consider getting tested with a viral test 1-3 days before your trip. Also consider getting tested with a viral test 3-5 days after your trip and reduce non-essential activities for a full 7 days after travel, even if your test is negative. If you don’t get tested, consider reducing non-essential activities for 10 days after travel.
Here is the link to the CDC’s advice:

Note: We will not be able to do travel related Covid-19 testing next week since Amber, our nurse, is on vacation.
Thirdly, If you are looking for a unique holiday gift and would like to help one of San Antonio’s oldest non profits that has suffered from the pandemic, continue reading.
ROAD TO RECOVERY
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the zoo closure earlier this year, and continuing lack of attendance, the zoo is experiencing a drastic financial shortfall. As a private 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, the zoo relies 100% on ticket sales, guest spending, generous donations, and grants to operate the zoo and provide world-class animal care, education programs, and conservation initiatives.
The San Antonio Zoo’s road to recovery is now long and uncertain, but this is where we – as a united community – can come in to help.
Will you join me in making a donation to the Road to Recovery campaign to help ensure that future generations will have the opportunity to visit the San Antonio Zoo and create memories for years to come?
In return for your donation, the zoo will display your name permanently as a donor on a paver/brick as part of a new floor art installation near the jaguar exhibition scheduled to be revealed in the fall 2021 (see video below).
This is the PERFECT holiday gift that will last a life time and make a difference in the lives of all the incredible animals that live at our local zoo.
- To learn more about the Road to Recovery campaign, please watch the short video enclosed and get a glimpse of the artwork that will be installed as part of the initiative.

- If you would like to mail-in a donation versus making one online, please click here for the donation form.
Every donation helps and I hope you will join me in participating in this important campaign in support of the San Antonio Zoo.
Thank you so much for your consideration.
Have a safe and Merry Christmas.
